The program was
started in September, 1993 after a survey of local
schools, music educators, youth leaders and other
community members indicated a need for a program of this
type. Our objective or mission is to provide the
highest quality choral experience possible for Stark
County students in grades 3 through 8. We bring
together talented singers, boys and girls, who learn a
challenging musical repertoire, vocal skills appropriate
to their age, self-discipline, musicianship,
self-confidence and a professional demeanor.
Under the
direction of Jon Simsic and accompanist
Sandy Simpson,
the program has grown to a current roster of over
sixty. Our choristers represent thirty schools and many
are home schooled. Physically challenged students have
participated in our program.
The Canton
Children's Chorus is sponsored by the Voices of Canton,
Inc. The group is split into two rehearsing groups;
on consisting of grades 3 and 4; the other, grades 5, 6,
7, and 8. Both groups have the opportunity to learn to
ring hand-held, bell like instruments called chimes
under the direction of Edward Hauck. The chorus
performs in fall, Christmas, winter, and spring
performances.
The annual
tuition for the chorus is $250.00, payable in two
installments (September and November).
There is a non-refundable fee of $10.00 for the
audition. However, this fee will be applied to the
annual tuition for the chorus. Rehearsals are
Monday afternoons, at
the Cultural Center for the Arts in Cable Recital Hall.
The student is supplied with music, which is the
repertoire for the fall, winter and spring season, a
Canton Children's Chorus t-shirt and occasional
refreshments are planned.
This invitation
is extended to new children with a love for music and
the enthusiasm to sing and perform. This certainly
includes those whose voices may not be the best now but
who have potential and willingness to work and grow.

Auditions for the
2008-2009 season of the Canton Children's Chorus (CCC)
will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Cable
Recital Hall in the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001
N. Market Avenue, Canton, Ohio. Auditions for Canton
Children's Chorus are non-threatening, low anxiety
try-outs. A prepared piece may be brought, but is
definitely not necessary. Parents may be present during
the audition.
